SHC restrains CCPO Karachi from fresh appointments on 1500 posts of Constable

KARACHI: Sindh High Court Wednesday restrained Capital City Police Officer Karachi from making any appointment on political basis against 1500 vacant posts of Police Constables allegedly in violation of service rules and regulations.

A division bench was hearing petition filed by Ali Safdar Depar and Javed Ahmed Kalwar, who challenged issuance of job offer/appointment letters to nearly 1500 candidates affiliated with political parties prior to announcement of official results. Their counsel Abdul Sallam Memon stated Karachi police department advertised 1500 posts of constables (BPS-5) in July 2001. He submitted around 10,000 candidates appeared in viva voce, written and physical tests conducted at police headquarter offices. He stated no results of these tests were so far announced officially. But, recently job offer letters were issued to 676 candidates belonging to a political party during recent visit of Prime Minister to Karachi. He stated over 800 job offer letters were also issued to candidates belonging to another political party. Counsel contended whole process was done without following due legal course, as these job offer letters were issued without officially announcing results of tests conducted for posts in question. He prayed to declare issuance of job offer letters without officially announcing results as unlawful & restrain CCPO Karachi from making any fresh appointment on 1500 posts notified for appointment. SHC division bench issued notice to Sindh Home Secretary, IG Police Sindh, CCPO Karachi and other respondents. Till then, CCPO Karachi was restrained from making any fresh appointment on notified posts. Hearing was adjourned to a date in office.
