KARACHI: Shahid Afridi will lead Pakistan in the cricket World Cup, television channels quoted Intikhab Alam, the teams manager, as saying in Hamilton, New Zealand, on Thursday.

According to Intikhab, an official announcement will be made on Friday.

The decision was taken after Pakistan clinched the one-day series against the Kiwis earlier in the day.

The World Cup, to be hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, begins on February 19.
