Majority population deprives of higher education: Noman

ISLAMABAD, Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Noman Bashir has said that majority of the population have not access to higher education and stressed the universities as well as higher education institutions to design non-degree skill oriented short courses to equip with the youth of the country.

He said this during his address to 7th Convocation ceremony of Bahria University Islamabad held here Monday, at Jinnah Convention Centre. Admiral Noman Bashir, Chief of the Naval Staff was the Chief Guest, who conferred the degrees to 553 graduating students including 188 in absentia in various disciplines including Business Management, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Telecommunication and Networking and Environmental Sciences. Fourteen (14) Gold Medals and Twelve (12) Silver Medals were awarded to the outstanding students as recognition of their remarkable achievement in their respective academic Programs. Admiral Noman Bashir congratulated the graduating students and especially those who have won the coveted Gold & Silver medals for their outstanding academic performance and also to the parents and relatives of the graduating students.

CNS appreciated the university management for effectively contributing in building up vital human resource and expressed his appreciation upon knowing that Bahria University has established a separate Quality Assurance Directorate to bring improvement in teaching and ensuring quality education, he added. While highlighting the fact he said that less than 5% of the population of the country has access to higher education, he emphasized the Universities and other higher education institutes to open up their facilities and design non-degree and skilled oriented short courses to provide vocational training to youth not being able to opt for regular degree programmes. During his speech Admiral Noman Bashir, also advised the teaching faculty to prepare and groom ! students to cope up with the daunting challenges of the time ahead. Vice Admiral E Muhammad Haroon, Rector Bahria University in his speech highlighted the achievement of the university made during the last one year a quality assurance directorate has been established to enhance quality and standards at each level of governance.

He informed that the discipline of LAW for 5 years LLB programme has commenced from Fall 2010. Dental section of Bahria University Medical College has been established with the state of the art laboratories and allied facilities and that construction of Medical College Complex at Karachi at the cost of about Rs. 540 million has started. Construction of gymnasium at Islamabad campus at the cost of Rs.70 million is nearing its completion. It will provide ample indoor sports facilities to students. While advising the graduating students he emphasized that, success is not limited to material gains only or to earn handsome salary, live in a spacious house or drive an expensive car. These things do matter but the real success is how one develops into a balanced, righteous, honest and truthful human being. He advised the students that every one of them is borne as a distinct individual with tremendous intuitive and intellectual abilities. He also advised them to discover those hidden qualities and apply them in their lives. Success will automatically come their way.
