Drive to promote use of iodised salt in Lakki soon
LAKKI MARWAT, Jan 29: The district health department will launch a survey to check the household consumption of iodised salt and create awareness among the people especially females about the usefulness of the commodity.
The health department with the help of two NGOs Micronutrient Initiative (MI) and Ask Development will engage lady health workers to conduct the survey and educate women on importance of iodised salt in daily diet, said an official on Saturday.
He said the LHWs had a direct contact with the females of each household of their respective localities so they could easily collect data about the consumption of iodised salt. He said the lady health workers would be imparted training in this regard by lady health supervisors who had been provided the training in DHQ hospital Tajazai.
The lady health supervisors have been given rapid test kits and household survey forms for onward distribution among the lady health workers.
POWER TARIFF: The owners of private irrigation tube wells have demanded of the concerned authorities to withdraw increased in power tariff for irrigation tube wells. They formed a body `Anjaman Zari Tube Well Owners Lakki Marwat` at a meeting on Saturday to air their concern.
The participants elected Sher Khan Khawjakhel as president, Maulana Abdul Razaaq Dallokhel as general secretary and Haji Inamullah Khan of Tajazai as finance secretary. The newly elected office-bearers thanked the owners of irrigation tube wells and farmers for reposing confidence in them.
They said the recent increase in power tariff for irrigation tube wells would prove detrimental for agriculture in the backward district. They made it clear that the tube well owners would not deposit inflated electricity bills nor they would allow quarters concerned to impose their unjust decisions on farmer community.
They demanded of the government to direct quarters concerned to restore the previous electricity rates! .
NAAT COMPETITIONS: The district administration held Naat competitions among the male and female children aging below and over 15 years in connection with the upcoming Islamic month of Rabiul Awal.
DCO Lakki Marwat Mohammad Ayyaz Mandokhel had directed district Khateeb Maulana Abdul Wahab to hold such competitions, said a press release on Saturday.
