Killer(s) of Taseer won`t escape punishment
LAHORE, Jan 21: Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa said on Friday that Salmaan Taseer was his mentor and his killer(s) would not escape punishment.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a PPP office in Sanda, and a cheque and wheelchairs distribution ceremony among the disabled at Awan-i-Iqbal. A large number of party workers and office-bearers were also present.
Taseer`s sacrifice will not go waste. He was my mentor and his killer(s) will not escape punishment, Khosa said, adding he had spoken to the IGP about the progress into the investigation in this regard.
Mr Khosa said he was the governor only because of the martyrs of the PPP. The PPP is a party of martyrs. It has become a strong political force because of the blood of martyrs, and it cannot be intimidated. We are also ready to sacrifice our lives. It is the symbol of the federation, he said.
The governor said the `reforms agendas` of the PML-N and the PML-Q were already part of the PPP manifesto. He said he had asked ministers (PPP) to redress grievances of the people. He also announced Rs60,000 and a monthly stipend of Rs5,000 to an elderly party worker Muhammad Sadiq alias Hira Sain.
Meanwhile, Senior Minister Raja Riaz called on Mr Khosa at the Governor`s House and discussed with him matters of mutual interests, particularly, the political situation in Punjab.
Raja Riaz briefed the governor on parliamentary affairs and the current session in the Punjab Assembly.
He also highlighted problems the PPP MPAs were facing in carrying out development works in their constituencies.
