BIRMINGHAM: Aston Villas Norwegian international striker John Carew has joined Stoke on loan until the end of the season, it was confirmed on Friday.
Stoke swooped on Carew after Villa clinched the surprise signing of Darren Bent from Sunderland earlier this week.
The 31-year-old, whose career has also included stints at Valencia and Lyon, has completed a medical and will be available for Stokes Premier League clash with Fulham on Saturday.
Carew believes a successful stint at the Britannia Stadium could lead to a permanent deal.
If Im happy and the club is happy, if I enjoy it and it goes well enough, then we can decide that in the summer, Carew said.
The important thing now is to make the most of this opportunity. Im looking forward to the challenge and I am happy to be here.
Although I had other offers, I saw Stoke as the best team and the strongest team, so this is a great chance for me to join a side fighting in the top half of the table.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis was delighted by the capture of the experienced Carew.
This is a fantastic signing, Pulis told stokecityfc.co.uk.
Johns record speaks for itself because he has scored goals at the highest level throughout his career.
As well as the experience he has gained at international level he has played for some top clubs across Europe and performed in the Champions League for many seasons, including an appearance in the final for Valencia.
On top of that he was Aston Villas leading scorer last season with 17 goals so we have acquired a striker w! ith an o utstanding pedigree.
