KARACHI: Pakistans limited-overs skipper Shahid Afridi said on Tuesday the national side is capable of winning the World Cup which starts from Feb 19.
Pakistan started 2011 with a great victory in the first Test against New Zealand in Hamilton the other day, which is a good beginning. The players are eager and determined to win the World Cup, he said at a reception hosted in his honour by Saddar Town administration here on Tuesday.
He said Pakistan will live up to the expectations of the nation in the six-match One-day International series starting in New Zealand later this month.
The joint objective of our team is to win the World Cup and the players will enter the fray fully prepared to bring glory and honour for the country, he remarked.
Afridi, who later planted a sapling in a drive launched by Saddar Town to make Karachi green, admitted that the body language of his team in the first two of three Twenty20 Internationals against New Zealand was not good and thats why they lost the series.
Obviously, we played below par in those two games which cost us the series. The body language was not good at all and the boys lacked in confidence. But we bounced back in the final match with a clinical performance, the skipper noted.
Afridi expressed his satisfaction over the overall performance of the team under his leadership.
